Authentic assessment using portfolio-based approaches has increasingly been recognized as a strategic model for evaluating student learning outcomes comprehensively and contextually. Portfolios allow learners to present not only their final achievements but also the processes behind their learning, thus offering a richer picture of progress and competence. This study explores the development of authentic assessment through portfolios and its alignment with innovative instructional design by applying a literature review method. The findings emphasize that portfolio assessment contributes significantly to both formative and summative evaluations while also fostering critical metacognitive, reflective, and collaborative skills among students. More than just an assessment instrument, portfolios serve as active components within the learning process, promoting student-centered, individualized, and engaging educational experiences. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for an integrative framework that unites curriculum, pedagogy, and educational technology. Such integration is crucial for strengthening assessment practices consistent with the objectives of 21st-century education and for ensuring meaningful learning outcomes.
